Fairfax, VA (Sports Network) - Erik Copes hit a game-winning jumper with a
second remaining as the George Mason Patriots squeezed by the William & Mary
Tribe, 60-58, in Colonial Athletic Association play at the Patriot Center.
Copes recorded 10 points and six rebounds for the Patriots (17-11, 10-6 CAA).
Patrick Holloway contributed a team-high 15 points off the bench. Bryon Allen
added 14 points, six boards, and four assists, as George Mason moved to four
consecutive wins.
For the Tribe (12-15, 6-10), Marcus Thornton scored a game-high 22 points. Tim
Rusthoven added 10 points and six rebounds as William & Mary had a three-game
winning streak snapped.
Williams and Mary and a 30-29 lead at the break by shooting 47.8 percent
from the field while hitting seven shots from beyond the arc.
In the second half, George Mason led, 58-56, with 27 second remaining.
Rusthoven made a critical shot with 14 seconds left, to tie up the game,
58-58. Copes then sealed the win with his game-winning jumper.
George Mason controlled points in the paint, 26-14, abut hit just 5-of-20
from long range.
