Hampton, VA (Sports Network) - Desi Washington recorded a game-high 26 points
as the Saint Peter's Peacocks defeated the Hampton Pirates, 66-59, in
BracketBuster play at the HU Convocation Center.
Markese Tucker chipped in 11 points and four rebounds for the Peacocks (9-18).
who snapped a two-game losing streak.
For the Pirates (11-15), Du'Vaughn Maxwell was one rebound shy of a double-
double with a team high 18 points. Deron Powers and Ramon Mercado chipped in
11 points apiece as Hampton lost its second of its last three games.
In the first half, Saint Peter's was held to 10-of-30 from the floor and 1-
of-4 from the foul line. Hampton made 13-of-29 field goals and 6-of-8 free
throw attempts, en route to a 34-25 advantage at the break.
In the second half, Hampton was held to a mere 8-of-23 from the floor though
it did hit 8-of-11 from the free-throw line. Saint Peter's knocked down
13-of-25 from the floor and 14-of-18 from the foul line to rally for the
seven-point victory.
Saint Peter's forced 17 turnovers and outscored the hosts, 15-4, in points off
takeaways.
