Richmond, VA (Sports Network) - Juvonte Reddic registered a double-double with
24 points and 10 rebounds as the Virginia Commonwealth Rams coasted to an
84-57 victory over the George Washington Colonials in an Atlantic 10
Conference matchup at the Siegel Center.
Rob Brandenberg, Melvin Johnson and Troy Daniels contributed 11 points each
for VCU (21-5, 9-2 A-10) as the Rams picked up their fifth consecutive victory
to hang onto sole possession of first place in the conference standings.
Kevin Larsen and Patricio Garino tallied 10 points apiece for the Colonials
(11-12, 5-5) as they were handed their second loss in a row. Larsen also
grabbed nine rebounds while Joe McDonald scored nine points and committed
eight of George Washington's 25 turnovers.
The Colonials jumped out to an early 8-2 lead but it did not last long as VCU
quickly battle back. The Rams closed out the first half with an 18-4 run to
build a sizeable, 42-24 advantage as the contest progressed into the
intermission. Reddic made all six of his field goal tries in the opening 20
minutes while VCU swiped 13 steals.
Although George Washington improved to connect on 41.4 percent of its attempts
from the field after the break, it was unable to cut into the deficit as VCU
extended its lead by hitting 16-of-32 of its field goal tries to close out the
contest.
The Colonials had a poor showing at the charity stripe, where they went just
14-of-25 while the Rams converted George Washington's 25 turnovers into 27
points.
