Vermillion, SD (Sports Network) - Frank Gaines notched 22 points to lead the
IUPU-Fort Wayne Mastodons to a 64-51 win over the South Dakota Coyotes in a
Summit League tilt at the DakotaDome.
Joe Edwards scored 11 points off the bench as IPFW (12-16, 5-9 Summit) won
consecutive games after dropping its previous three.
Trevor Gruis paced South Dakota (8-18, 4-10) with 12 points on 6-of-8 shooting
from the floor, while Casey Kasperbauer and Juevol Myles poured in 11 and 10
points, respectively.
IPFW shot 46.9 percent from the floor in the opening period while holding
South Dakota to just 30.4 percent. The Coyotes also missed all four of their
foul shots and trailed 36-17 at intermission.
South Dakota hit 44.4 percent of its shots from the field in the second half
but made just 2-of-7 from long range as it suffered the home setback.
IPFW never trailed in the contest and held South Dakota without a fast break
point.
