Wichita, KS (Sports Network) - Carl Hall posted a double-double with 14 points
and 10 rebounds to guide the Wichita State Shockers over the Drake Bulldogs,
71-56, in a Missouri Valley Conference matchup at Charles Koch Arena.
Hall was one of four Shockers (21-5, 10-4 MVC) to score in double-figures, led
by Fred VanVleet who scored 17 points to go with nine assists. Malcolm
Armstead added 12 points and Cleanthony Early contributed 11 points, four
blocks and three steals as Wichita State won its second in a row after a
three-game slump.
Ben Simons led the Bulldogs (11-14, 5-9) with 15 points while knocking down
three shots from beyond the arc. Richard Carter added 11 points with six
assists while Jordan Clarke had 10 points and eight rebounds. Drake has lost
three in a row.
In the first half Wichita State held the Bulldogs to just 21.4 percent
shooting from the field and 1-of-11 shooting from 3-point range. The Shockers
carried a 30-16 lead into intermission.
In the second half Drake shot much better, hitting 52.4 percent of its shots
from the field and making good on 7-of-12 attempts from long range. The
Shockers were still able to cruise to the win after scoring 14 points at the
free-throw line.
Wichita State earned a 45-29 rebounding edge in the game and scored 22 second
chance points off 18 offensive rebounds.
