Bowling Green, OH (Sports Network) - A'uston Calhoun tallied 24 points to
propel the Bowling Green Falcons to a 70-60 decision over the Western Michigan
Broncos in a Mid-American Conference tilt at the Stroh Center.
Jordon Crawford added 13 points and four assists for BGSU (10-14, 5-6 MAC),
which also received 11 points from Chauncey Orr. Richaun Holmes also made an
impact in the contest with eight points and nine rebounds.
Nate Hutcheson and Austin Richie scored 14 points apiece for WMU (15-9, 7-4)
as it suffered its second consecutive loss after winning its previous seven.
Shayne Whittington provided a double-double of 13 points and 15 boards in the
losing effort.
Both sides struggled to find their shooting touch in the opening 20 minutes of
action. WMU shot just 37.9 percent from the field and went 0-of-6 from beyond
the arc while BGSU hit on 38.5 percent of its attempts from the floor to keep
pace. After the lead changed hands three times, the contest went into the
intermission tied up at 30.
The Falcons used a 9-1 run early in the second half to build an eight-point
lead and later extended their advantage to 15 on three separate occasions. The
Broncos were unable to rally back as they went 5-of-15 at the free-throw line
in the second stanza while allowing BGSU to connect on 63.6 percent of its
field goal tries.
Despite being defeated, WMU held a 38-28 edge in the rebounding battle and
outscored the hosts, 34-24, in the paint.
