Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Manny Atkins finished with 13 points and nine
rebounds as the Georgia State Panthers coasted to a 61-43 victory over the
Hofstra Pride in a Colonial Athletic Association matchup at GSU Sports Arena.
James Vincent and Devonta White added 11 points apiece for Georgia State
(13-14, 8-6 CAA) as it ended a two-game losing slide.
Stevie Mejia registered the first double-double of his career for Hofstra
(6-19, 3-9) with 18 points and 10 rebounds, but he was the only player for the
Pride to score in double-figures. The rest of the starting five shot a
collective 5-of-21 from the field as Hofstra lost its eighth game in nine
outings.
The Panthers shot just 36 percent from the floor in the opening 20 minutes,
but Hofstra trailed, 28-19, at the intermission after it managed to hit on
only 28.6 percent of its field goal tries before the break.
The Pride continued to struggle in the second stanza, connecting on just 30
percent of their field goal attempts. Georgia State coasted to the decision by
sinking 9-of-10 at the charity stripe over the final 20 minutes of action.
Despite the loss, Hofstra held a 36-26 advantage in the rebounding battle. The
Pride committed 22 turnovers which Georgia State converted into 31 points en
route to the 18-point win.
