Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) - Travis Taylor put together a double-double
with 13 points and 12 rebounds for the Xavier Musketeers who earned a 73-65
Atlantic 10 Conference win over the Duquesne Dukes at the CONSOL Energy
Center.
Taylor was 5-of-7 from the floor for Xavier (13-9, 6-3 A-10), which has won
two of its last three games. Semaj Christon and Isaiah Philmore scored 16
points each while Christon had seven rebounds and eight assists. Justin Martin
contributed 15 points and eight rebounds.
Duquesne (7-16, 0-9) was led by 19 points from Quevyn Winters who shot just
3-of-12 from beyond the arc. Jerry Jones and Jeremiah Jones tallied 11
points each and Andre Marhold led the squad with 10 rebounds as the Dukes took
their 11th straight loss and remained winless in conference play.
The Musketeers held Duquesne to 30.3 percent shooting from the field in the
first half and carried a 33-26 lead into the break.
In the second half the Musketeers earned 16 points at the free-throw line and
outscored the Dukes 40-39.
Duquesne took 33 attempts from 3-point range and made good on just nine.
Xavier was able to take twice as many shots from the charity stripe than the
Dukes, going 22-of-34.
