Ruston, LA (Sports Network) - Raheem Appleby led the way with 15 points as the
Louisiana Tech Bulldogs stayed perfect in league play as they took down the
Texas-Arlington Mavericks, 64-51, in a Western Athletic Conference bout at the
Thomas Assembly Center.
For the Bulldogs (19-3, 10-0 WAC), Cordarius Johnson added 12 points as they
won their 11th straight outing overall.
Brandon Edwards led the Mavericks (10-9, 5-5) with a game-high 17 points, to
go along with nine rebounds, while Greg Gainey chipped in with 10 points.
Louisiana Tech shot 42.3 percent from the field, including 4-of-11 from beyond
the 3-point line in the first half as they claimed a 33-28 lead at halftime.
The Bulldogs made just 30.4 percent of their field goal tries in the second
half, including 2-of-12 from 3-point range. The Mavericks shot a near
identical 30 percent from the field and missed all seven of their 3-point
tries. However, after pushing their advantage to as many as 16, the Bulldogs
coasted to victory.
UTA finished the night shooting only 1-of-12 beyond the arc and 14-of-25 at
the free-throw line. The Mavericks also hurt themselves with 20 turnovers.
