Boone, NC (Sports Network) - Nathan Healy scored 24 points for the Appalachian
State Mountaineers who defeated the Western Carolina Catamounts, 74-65, in a
Southern Conference matchup at the Holmes Center.
Healy was 8-of-11 from the field and 4-of-5 from 3-point range while pulling
down eight rebounds and tallying seven steals with two blocks. Jay Canty added
19 points, eight rebounds, and five assists for the Mountaineers (9-12, 5-5
SoCon), who ended a two-game drought.
Western Carolina (8-14, 5-5) was led by Trey Sumler who had 21 points and
three steals. Sumler also had eight turnovers and was just 6-of-16 from the
field. James Sinclair was 7-of-11 from the field with 17 points for the
Catamounts, who lost their third in a row and fifth in the last six games.
Appalachian State carried a 41-29 lead into the break after shooting 53.6
percent from the field and knocking down 5-of-9 3-point attempts in the first
half.
The Mountaineers shot 52.2 percent from the floor in the second half they were
to hold on for the victory.
Appalachian State was efficient from the floor, shooting at 52.9 percent and
50.0 percent from beyond the arc. The Catamounts shot at 41.1 percent from the
field and 30.8 percent from deep.
