Normal, IL (Sports Network) - Jackie Carmichael recorded a double-double with
15 points and 11 rebounds for the Illinois State Redbirds who earned a
convincing 83-47 Missouri Valley Conference win over the Southern Illinois
Salukis at the Redbird Arena.
Carmichael was 5-of-10 from the field with two blocks while Tyler Brown lead
the Redbirds (13-10, 4-7 MVC) in scoring with 16 points off 5-of-9 shooting
from the field and 3-of-5 shooting from beyond the arc. Illinois State has won
four of its last five after a six-game losing streak.
For the Salukis (8-14, 1-10), Desmar Jackson led the team with 14 points but
shot just 6-of-18 from the field. Anthony Beane Jr. added 10 points while Jeff
Early was the squad's top rebounder with 11. Southern Illinois has lost six in
a row.
After holding the Salukis 35.7 percent shooting from the field in the first
half, Illinois State led 39-27 at the break.
In the second half the Redbirds shot 50.0 percent from the field and outscored
Southern Illinois 44-20.
The Salukis shot just 30.5 percent from the field and had 13 turnovers which
led to 19 points for the Redbirds.
