Iowa City, IA (Sports Network) - Aaron White hit 10-of-11 at the free-throw
line and netted a career-high 27 points to lead the Iowa Hawkeyes to a 76-67
win over the Penn State Nittany Lions in a Big Ten bout at Carver-Hawkeye
Arena.
Melsahn Basabe also did the majority of his damage at the charity stripe,
connecting on 8-of-10 free-throw attempts for 10 points to go along with 10
rebounds for Iowa (14-7, 3-5 Big Ten).
D.J. Newbill led Penn State (8-13, 0-9) with 20 points and six rebounds while
playing all 40 minutes for the second time this season. Jermaine Marshall
netted 15 points.
White had 14 points in the first half as Iowa managed a 34-26 halftime
advantage despite no other Hawkeyes scoring more than four points in the
opening period. PSU turned the ball over 11 times in the first half and had
just four assists.
Penn State managed to keep the score close early in the second half, cutting
the deficit to 39-36 at the 16:55 mark. Iowa responded with a 17-5 run to
increase its lead to 56-41 and then never looked back.
Iowa improved to 24-13 all-time versus PSU.
