Niagara, NY (Sports Network) - A 3-pointer by Juan'ya Green in the final
moments of overtime provided the Niagara Purple Eagles with a thrilling 93-90
win over the Iona Gaels in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play at the
Gallagher Center.
Green was two assists shy of a double-double with 26 points for the Purple
Eagles in the victory (14-8, 10-1 MAAC). Ameen Tanksley recorded a double-
double with 15 points and 11 boards. Antoine Mason scored a team-high 30
points and T.J. Cline tallied 11 points off the bench as Niagara a seventh
consecutive game.
For the Gaels (14-8, 8-3), David Laury recorded a double-double with 24 points
and 16 boards. Lamont Jones was two rebounds shy of a double-double with 23
points, but also turned the ball over eight times on the night. Sean Armand,
Tre Bowman, and Curtis Dennis added 11 points apiece as Iona snapped a two-
game winning streak.
Niagara made 7-of-17 3-pointers in the first half, but Iona made 60.7 percent
from the floor in the frame to claim a 41-38 advantage at the half.
Iona held a three-point lead with 23 seconds remaining in regulation until
Green hit a 3-pointer with seven seconds remaining to tie the score at 81-81
and force overtime.
Iona was a perfect 7-of-7 at the foul-line in bonus session, but Niagara made
5-of-11 from the floor, including the clutch 3-pointer by Green as time
expired to seal the win.
Niagara was forced into 17 turnovers on the night, while Iona only gave the
ball away six times.
