Lafayette, LA (Sports Network) - Elfrid Payton scored 24 points to go along
with a game-high nine assists to lead the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns to a 105-74
rout of the North Texas Mean Green in Sun Belt Conference play at the
Cajundome.
Shawn Long contributed 23 points and 13 rebounds for Louisiana (8-15, 4-8 Sun
Belt) which eclipsed the century mark for the first time this season. Bryant
Mbamalu went for 18 points and four assists off the bench and Elridge Moore
netted 10 points.
Despite the loss, Jordan Williams erupted for 31 points on 12-of-17 from the
field to lead UNT (8-15, 3-9). Alzee Williams added 14 points off the bench
while Roger Franklin reached double figures with 10.
North Texas shot well in the opening period, hitting 57.1 percent of its
field goal attempts, while Louisiana managed just 44.4 percent shooting.
However, it was the Ragin' Cajuns who opened the game on a 17-5 run and made
8-of-10 at the foul-line, en route to a 45-37 lead at intermission.
UNT cut the deficit to just four early in the second half before Louisiana
went on a tear offensively, shooting 62.9 percent for the period as it cruised
to the comfortable victory.
Louisiana controlled the glass, outrebounding UNT 38-27, while forcing 18
Mean Green turnovers.
