Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Ben Averkamp posted a double-double with 22
points and 12 rebounds to lead the Loyola-Chicago Ramblers to a 76-65 victory
over the Milwaukee Panthers in a Horizon League matchup at Gentile Arena.
Jordan Hicks added 21 points for the Ramblers (13-8, 3-5 Horizon), while
Christian Thomas finished with 16 points.
For the Panthers,(5-17, 1-7), Jordan Aaron and Austin Arians each scored 17
points, while Demetrius Harris chipped in with 11 points and eight rebounds,
as Milwaukee remained winless on the road this season. Paris Gulley, who
entered as the team's leading scorer, went just 2-of-12 from the floor to net
six points.
Milwaukee shot the ball well to open the contest, shooting 50 percent from the
field and knocking down 5-of-13 from beyond the 3-point arc, as they took a
33-32 lead into intermission. Loyola hit on 48.1 percent from the field, but
missed all but one of their eight 3-point attempts in the first half.
After halftime, the Ramblers came out hot, draining 57.1 percent of their
field goal tries, including 3-of-7 from 3-point distance. The Panthers
struggled in the second half, making only 39.3 percent of their field goal
attempts, though they did connect on 3-of-7 from beyond the arc. Trailing by
two, 44-42, with 14 minutes to play, the Ramblers went on a 20-0 run over the
next seven minutes to take complete control of the game, as they cruised to
victory.
The Ramblers dominated down low, outscoring the Panthers in the paint, 46-24.
Loyola also had a 35-25 rebounding advantage on the night.
