Bronx, NY (Sports Network) - Carl Jones finished with 19 points to lead the
Saint Joseph's Hawks over the Fordham Rams, 66-62, in an Atlantic 10
Conference clash at Rose Hill Gym.
For the Hawks (12-7, 3-3 A-10), Halil Kanacevic added 12 points, Ronald
Roberts posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, and Chris
Wilson chipped in with 10 points. Langston Galloway dished out six assists for
SJU, which has won three of four.
Branden Frazier led all scorers with 24 points for the Rams (6-15, 2-4), while
Mandell Thomas scored 17 points and Ryan Canty pulled down 14 rebounds.
Fordham shot just 39.3 percent from the field in the first half but did
connect on 4-of-11 from 3-point range, as it took a 30-28 lead at the break.
SJU made 40.6 percent of its field goals, but missed all but one of its 12
tries from beyond the 3-point arc in the first half.
After the break, the Hawks found their stroke, draining 54.5 percent of their
field goal tries, including 6-of-9 from beyond the arc, while the Rams shot
just 40 percent from the field. The teams traded leads for most of the frame.
Trailing by one, 62-61, with 47 seconds to play, the Hawks made 5-of-6 from
the free-throw line down the stretch and held the Rams scoreless in that span,
as they escaped with the road win.
The Hawks had a 32-22 edge on points in the paint. SJU had a slight advantage
on the boards, 35-34.
