Rochester, MI (Sports Network) - Travis Bader followed up his career-high 47
points on Thursday night with a 26-point outing to lead the Oakland Golden
Grizzlies to a 67-60 victory over the Western Illinois Leathernecks in a
Summit League matchup at Athletics Center O'rena.
Bader, the nation's leader in 3-pointers made, added five more triples to his
resume as Oakland (10-13, 5-4 Summit) won its second consecutive game. Duke
Mondy added 18 points and four steals off the bench, while Corey Petros
corralled 12 rebounds.
Remy Roberts-Burnett paced WIU (16-5, 8-2) with 16 points on 7-of-10 from the
floor. Terell Parks registered a double-double with 13 points and 12 boards,
while Jack Houpt made four 3-pointers en route to his 12-point, 11-rebound
double-double. Adam Link scored 10 points and blocked three shots.
The home team shot just 31 percent in the opening period but attacked the rim
and made 7-of-8 free throw attempts, while the Leathernecks failed to convert
their two attempts from the charity stripe. Bader had 14 points, nearly half
of Oakland's total, as the two teams were knotted up, 30-30, at intermission.
Oakland responded from a difficult shooting first half to hit 47.6 percent of
its shot attempts in the second. The score was tied at 52-52 with 5:34
remaining when Petros and Mondy led a 6-0 Oakland run from the free throw
line. A 3-pointer by Bader moments later gave the Grizzlies some breathing
room and they held on.
Western Illinois' reserves failed to score while Oakland's bench scored 24
points.
