Pocatello, ID (Sports Network) - Gabe Rogers posted 22 points and DeWayne
Russell scored 19 to push Northern Arizona to a 60-55 triumph over Idaho State
Saturday night in Big Sky conference play from Holt Arena.
Gaellan Bewernick had 14 rebounds for the Lumberjacks (6-12, 3-5 Big Sky), who
broke a four-game slide. Northern Arizona also ended a 12-game regular season
road conference losing streak.
Tomas Sanchez poured in 12 points, while Andre Hatchett and Melvin Morgan each
scored 11 for the Bengals (4-13, 3-5), who failed to build on Thursday's home
win against Sacramento State.
Rogers was particularly effective from long distance as he hit 4-of-10 from 3-
point range. Conversely, the Bengals went 3-of-14 from beyond the arc.
NAU led by as many as seven in the first half, but the Lumberjacks found
themselves in a 30-30 tie at the break.
Hatchett's layup had the hosts within 52-51 with 2:15 remaining, but Jordyn
Martin countered with a bucket and he then hit a pair of free throws for a
56-51 difference with 1:39 left. Rogers added two more from the charity
stripe.
The Bengals had one last gasp as Melvin's layup made it 58-55 with 39 seconds
left. Bewernick missed a pair of free throws, but ISU couldn't take advantage
as Nnamdi Ezenwa's layup try was blocked by Martin.
Rogers sealed the outcome at the foul line.
