DeKalb, IL (Sports Network) - David Brown netted a team-high 13 points as
the Western Michigan Broncos completed a 71-34 rout of the Northern Illinois
Huskies in Mid-American Conference action at the NIU Convocation Center.
Brown came off the bench making 2-of-4 from beyond the arc to help the Broncos
(10-8, 2-2 MAC) collect a victory for the second time in a row. Shayne
Whittington was one point shy of a double- double as he grabbed 10 boards.
For the Huskies (3-13, 1-3), Kevin Gray tallied 13 points and five rebounds
but was the only player in double-figures as NIU fell to a three-game losing
streak.
WMU opened up the contest on a 14-6 run. The Broncos made 47.4 percent of
their shots from the floor including 5-of-10 from long-range, while holding
the Huskies to a mere 7-of-25 shooting from the floor in the opening 20
minutes to take a 31-20 lead into the intermission.
WMU continued its solid shooting making 62.5 percent from the floor and 18-
of-20 from the free throw line, NIU continued to struggle and scored just 14
second half points after making only four of their 30 field goal attempts
after the break.
The Broncos dominated the boards, 42-27, and made 7-of-14 from long-range to
coast to the decision.
