Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - Ian Clark scored a team-high 22 points as the
Belmont Bruins defeated the Tennessee State Tigers, 78-66, in Ohio Valley
Conference action at the Curb Event Center.
Clark also recorded six boards, six assists, and four steals in the Bruins
(15-4, 6-0 OVC) victory. Kerron Johnson chipped in 17 points and five assists.
Trevor Noack scored 16 points as Belmont won its sixth consecutive game.
For the Tigers (12-8, 6-1), Jordan Cyphers scored a game-high 23 points.
Patrick Miller was two points shy of a triple-double, as he tallied 12 assists
and 10 rebounds. Kellen Thornton recorded a double-double with 16 points and
11 boards as Tennessee State had its seven game winning streak concluded.
Both teams were 3-of-11 from long range in the opening 20 minutes, but the
Tigers committed nine turnovers and went just 7-of-28 from the floor. Belmont
took a 35-22 lead into the intermission after it connected on 39.4 percent of
its field goal tries in the first half.
Tennessee State made 61.3 percent from the floor including 6-of-12 from long
range after the break. However, Belmont made 48.3 percent from the floor
including 8-of-14 from beyond the arc, en route to a 12-point victory.
Belmont forced 16 miscues in the contest, and outscored the Tigers, 24-5, in
points off turnovers. The Bruins also outscored Tennessee State, 32-22, in the
paint.
