Norfolk, VA (Sports Network) - Manny Atkins poured in 21 points to lead the
Georgia State Panthers to a 69-54 victory over the Old Dominion Monarchs in a
Colonial Athletic Association bout at the Ted Constant Convocation Center.
R.J. Hunter also made a big impact for Georgia State (8-11, 3-3 CAA) by
going 6-of-12 from the floor to score 20 points. Devonta White tallied 15
points and seven assists while James Vincent pulled down 12 boards to go along
with four blocks as the Panthers collected their second-straight win.
Dimitri Batten paced ODU (2-16, 0-6) with 14 points on 5-of-10 shooting and
Donte Hill chipped in 13 points. The Monarchs, who are the only team left in
the CAA without a victory in conference action, have now lost six in a row.
The Panthers took a narrow 29-25 lead into the intermission after they hit
39.3 percent of their field goal attempts and limited ODU to 31.6 percent
shooting.
The contest remained close to start the second period, but GSU used an 11-1
run to give the visitors a comfortable, 56-44 edge on the scoreboard with only
6:47 remaining. The Panthers converted 12-of-14 at the charity stripe in the
second half to stay in front.
The Monarchs managed just eight points off of the 13 turnovers by GSU, which
tallied 18 points off of ODU's 17 miscues.
