Flagstaff, AZ (Sports Network) - Dewayne Russell scored a game-high 25 points
as the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks defeated the Sacramento Hornets, 57-50, in
Big Sky action at the Walkup Skydome.
Russell made 11-of-12 free throw attempts and recorded five assists and four
steals in the Lumberjacks' (5-8, 2-1 Big Sky) victory. Gabe Rogers scored 11
points as the Lumberjacks snapped a three-game losing streak.
For the Hornets (6-5, 1-2), Joe Eberhard recorded a double-double, scoring 12
points and pulling-down 10 boards. John Dickson scored 12 points but was the
only other player in double-figures for the Hornets who have lost four of the
last five games.
Northern Arizona started the game out on a 9-3 run, by hitting three straight
shots from beyond the arc, en route to a 30-25 advantage at the break.
Both teams struggled shooting in the second half. Northern Arizona played an
impressive defensive half forcing 12 turnovers, recording eight steals, and
keeping Sacramento to an 0-of-5 showing from long range.
The Lumberjacks forced 20 turnovers which they traded in for 19 points to help
overcome a 32.1 percent shooting effort.
