Kansas City, MO (Sports Network) - Nate Wolters led the way with a game-high
23 points as the South Dakota State Jackrabbits took down the UMKC Kangaroos,
77-61, in a Summit League battle at Municipal Auditorium.
For the Jackrabbits (11-5, 2-1 Summit), Jordan Dykstra added 21 points and
Chad White finished with 14 points.
Thomas Staton led the Kangaroos (4-11, 1-3) with 14 points, while Nelson
Kirksey scored 12 points and Estan Tyler chipped in with 10 points.
The Jackrabbits came out hot to start the contest, connecting on 58.1 percent
of their field goal attempts, including 10-of-17 from beyond the 3-point
arc. Leading 31-20 with under five minutes left in the first, SDSU scored the
final 18 points of the half as it took a commanding 49-20 lead into
halftime. Conversely, the Kangaroos struggled, shooting only 32 percent from
the field and 2-of-8 from 3-point range to open the game.
After the break, UMKC finally found its shooting touch and hit on 55.6
percent of its field goal attempts, including 6-of-11 from long distance.
SDSU cooled off a bit, shooting just 42.3 percent from the field in the second
half and only 2-of-10 from 3-point distance. While they cut somewhat into
their huge deficit in the second half, the closest the Kangaroos could get was
14 points down late in the game, as the Jackrabbits were able to coast to
victory.
The Jackrabbits outrebounded the Kangaroos 32-26. UMKC did have an 8-0 edge
in second chance points.
