Jacksonville, AL (Sports Network) - J.J. Mann scored 16 points and pulled down
11 rebounds as he helped guide the Belmont Bruins to a 73-62 win over the
Jacksonville State Gamecocks in Ohio Valley Conference play at Pete Mathews
Coliseum.
Also scoring in double figures for Belmont (10-4, 1-0 OVC) were Blake Jenkins
with 14 points, Ian Clark with 12 and Kerron Johnson and Trevor Noack with 11
points apiece as the team picked up its first win in OVC play after coming
over from the Atlantic Sun Conference.
The Gamecocks (10-4, 2-1) were paced by Brian Williams who tallied a game-high
18 points, while Darion Rackley and Nick Cook each posted 11 points as the
team saw a brief two-game win streak come to an end.
A tight game in the first half, Belmont didn't sink a single 3-point shot yet
still managed to pull out to a slim 33-31 lead at the break.
In the second half the Bruins began to pull away on the strength of 57.1
percent accuracy from the floor, including 4-of-7 percent beyond the arc, on
the way to the double-digit win.
Belmont suffered 16 turnovers on the night, but the team was able to balance
those out with a perfect 17-of-17 showing at the free-throw line.
