Dayton, OH (Sports Network) - Reggie Arceneaux scored 15 points and handed out
eight assists as the Wright State Raiders dismissed the Green Bay Phoenix,
64-53, in the Horizon League opener for both programs at the Wright State
Nutter Center.
Also scoring in double figures for the Raiders (10-4, 1-0 HL) was Tavares
Sledge with 13 points, to go along with a team-best nine rebounds, while Miles
Dixon chipped in 11 points off the bench as the team won for the fifth time in
the last six outings.
Green Bay (6-8, 0-1) was paced by Brennan Cougill who came off the bench to
offer up a game-high 17 points, to go along with six rebounds, in just 19
minutes of action. Starting guard Keifer Sykes tallied 11 points, but the
starting five combined to shoot just 7-of-27 from the floor as the team had a
three-game win streak snapped.
The Phoenix may have moved out to a four-point lead early on in the meeting,
but the visitors shot a woeful 29.2 percent from the floor in the first half,
leading to a 33-24 deficit at the break.
In the second half WSU made good on just 8-of-22 (.364) from the field,
including 1-of-7 beyond the arc, but the squad made up for it with 14-of-19
shooting at the free-throw line, en route to the double-digit win.
Green Bay, which shot only 4-of-15 from 3-point range, ended up with more
turnovers (18) than made field goals (17).
