Richmond, KY (Sports Network) - Tarius Johnson tied a team-high 13 points as
the Eastern Kentucky Colonels defeated the Eastern Illinois Panthers, 65-54,
in Ohio Valley Conference play at McBrayer Arena.
Johnson was 6-of-8 shooting from the floor including one made 3-pointer for
the Colonels (11-3, 1-0 OVC). Mike DiNunno also tied the team-high with 13
points. Marcus Lewis chipped in 11 points as the Colonels remained perfect
(8-0) at home.
For the Panthers (3-12, 0-2), Morris Woods scored a game-high 15 points off
the bench. Josh Piper scored 10 points and pulled down five boards.
Eastern Kentucky shot 52 percent from the floor and went on a 16-2 run late
in the first half, eventually claiming a 35-18 advantage at the break
Eastern Illinois fought back shooting 53.9 percent from the floor in the
second half, but Eastern Kentucky would make 5-of-12 from beyond the arc to
earn the 11-point victory.
Both teams shot 45.7 percent from the floor, but Eastern Kentucky's nine
3-pointers and 14 made free-throws gave the Colonels the win.
