Auburn, AL (Sports Network) - Frankie Sullivan led all scorers with 24 points
as the Auburn Tigers held off the Florida State Seminoles, 78-72, in non-
conference action at Auburn Arena.
Sullivan shot just 6-of-15 from the floor, but he made up for it by going 9-
of-11 from the foul line for the Tigers (6-7), who snapped a two-game losing
skid. Allen Payne tallied 17 points and seven rebounds, while Rob Chubb added
eight points and 10 boards.
For Florida State (8-5), Michael Snaer had 18 points, 12 rebounds, and four
assists, but he also committed six turnovers. Terry Whisnant chipped in 16
points for the Seminoles, who had won their previous four games.
Florida State led by as 12 in the first half, but Auburn finished the frame on
a 21-10 run in the final nine minutes to close the gap to just one point,
36-35, heading into intermission.
With the score tied at 40-40 early in the second half, Chubb converted a layup
to give the Tigers the lead, and they would not surrender that advantage for
the rest of the game.
The Seminoles outshot the Tigers from the field, 48.3 percent to 34.9 percent,
but the difference came at the foul line, where Auburn went 28-of-41. Florida
State was just 7-of-15 from the stripe.
