Irvine, CA (Sports Network) - Andre Stringer scored 19 points as the LSU
Tigers held off the UC Irvine Anteaters, 66-60, in a non-conference bout at
the Bren Center.
Shavon Coleman added a double-double (13 points, 11 rebounds) off the bench
and Anthony Hickey contributed 10 points as a reserve as well for LSU (7-1)
which bounced back from its first loss of the season.
Adam Folker led UC Irvine (5-7) with 13 points. Michael Wilder had 11
rebounds and was a point shy of a double-double.
LSU forced 11 turnovers and outscored UC Irvine 12-6 from beyond the arc in
the first half to earn a 34-26 lead at the break.
The Tigers led by as many as 13 points in the second half but found
themselves up by only three points (62-59) with 48 seconds remaining.
Stringer nailed a pair of free throws to give LSU some breathing room and
the Anteaters missed two shots and had a turnover on their last three
possessions.
UC Irvine lost despite having a slightly better shooting percentage (37.3)
than LSU (37.1). The Tigers had a 21-12 edge in points off turnovers and a
10-0 advantage in points on the fast break.
