Madison, WI (Sports Network) - Ryan Evans tallied 13 points, seven rebounds,
and two blocks to lift the Wisconsin Badgers to a 65-54 win over their
intrastate rival Green Bay Phoenix in a non-conference duel at the Kohl
Center.
Sam Dekker and Jared Berggren chipped in 10 points each for Wisconsin (7-4),
which picked up its third victory in its last four outings. Ben Brust dished
out a game-high total of five assists.
Brennan Cougill registered a double-double for Green Bay (3-6) with 12 points
and 12 boards. Keifer Sykes scored a game-high 14 points on 7-of-18 shooting
from the field and Alex Brown contributed just eight points after being held
to 3-of-11 shooting.
The Phoenix jumped out to an early seven-point lead after the Badgers opened
the game with just one make on their first 10 field goal attempts. Wisconsin
powered its way back on top and held a 27-23 advantage at the break. Green Bay
went into the intermission trailing despite converting 40 percent of its field
goals while holding the hosts to 38.5 percent shooting from the floor in the
opening half.
The Badgers heated up the drain 56 percent of their field goal tries after the
break. Green Bay trailed by as many as 15 points before fighting back to fall
by a nine-point margin. The Phoenix went 11-of-31 from the field over the
final 20 minutes.
Wisconsin came out on top despite losing the rebounding battle, 35-32.
