San Jose, CA (Sports Network) - James Kinney scored 20 points for the San Jose
State Spartans as they defeated the Sacramento State Hornets, 62-57, in an
intrastate non-conference matchup at The Events Center.
Kinney led all scorers despite shooting 8-of-22 from the floor for the
Spartans (5-3), who have now won three in a row. Chris Cunningham recorded an
impressive double-double scoring 10 points and pulling down an incredible 17
rebounds, 10 of which came on the offensive end. D.J. Brown stuffed the stat
sheet with nine assists, eight rebounds, and seven points.
John Dickson was 7-of-14 from the floor for 16 points for the Hornets (5-3),
who have lost two straight. Dickson was joined in double-figure scoring by
Dylan Garrity (12 points) and Konner Veteto (11 points, nine rebounds).
Sacramento State led 28-22 at halftime despite shooting 31.4 percent from the
field. San Jose State trailed after it converted only 25 percent of its
attempts from the floor.
The Spartans rallied back in the second half outscoring the Hornets 40-29,
holding them to 31.3 percent from the floor.
Both teams shot a lousy 31.3 percent from the field in the game, but the
Spartans won the battle on the boards, 35-22.
