Fairfax, VA (Sports Network) - Seth Tuttle scored 18 points and went 6-of-6
from the foul line in the final 22 seconds of overtime as the Northern Iowa
Panthers outlasted the George Mason Patriots, 82-77, in a non-conference bout
at the Patriot Center.
Marc Sonnen scored a game-high 21 points on 7-of-10 from three-point range for
UNI (6-3), while Anthony James netted 19 points.
Sherrod Wright led the Patriots (6-4) with 20 points on 7-of-10 from the
field. Bryan Allen added 13 points. All ten players who took the court for
George Mason scored at least two points.
Sonnen scored 12 in the first half, including a three-pointer with three
seconds remaining to give the Panthers a 35-31 halftime advantage. George
Mason shot 46.2 percent from the field in the half but turned the ball over 11
times.
The Panthers held a six-point lead with 4:19 remaining, which was the biggest
lead of the second half for either team. George Mason fought back to tie the
score with just over a minute left on a Wright layup, and the teams went
scoreless for the remainder of regulation. Anthony James missed a layup at the
buzzer for UNI and the game went to overtime.
James scored the first five points of the extra session for the Panthers, who
also got two free throws from Jake Koch before Tuttle put the game away from
the line.
UNI won its third straight contest after dropping the previous three.
