Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Marcus Georges-Hunt led the way with 18 points
as the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets defeated the Georgia Bulldogs, 62-54, in an
interstate clash at McCamish Pavilion.
Mfon Udofia added 12 points for the Yellow Jackets (5-2)
For the Bulldogs (2-6), Kentavious Caldwell-Pope posted a double-double with
16 points and 13 rebounds.
Neither team could find the basket in the first half. Both squads shot just
34.6 percent from the field. The teams did have different success from long
range though. Georgia missed all but one of its nine 3-point attempts,
while Georgia Tech was able to connect on 6-of-10 from beyond the arc,
allowing the Yellow Jackets to take a 35-22 advantage into halftime.
After the break, the teams continued to shoot poorly, with the Yellow Jackets
making just 31.8 percent from the field and the Bulldogs just 29.0 percent.
The Bulldogs were able to cut their deficit to just five, 55-50, with little
over two minutes remaining in regulation, but the Yellow Jackets were able to
hold on down the stretch to secure the road victory.
Georgia Tech finished the contest with a 27-6 scoring advantage from 3-point
range. The Bulldogs dominated in the paint, outscoring the Yellow Jackets
30-10.
