Charlotte, NC (Sports Network) - Chris Braswell scored 18 points and pulled
down seven rebounds in 24 minutes off the bench as he helped the undefeated
Charlotte 49ers capture a 76-64 win over the East Carolina Pirates in non-
conference action at Halton Arena.
Braswell was 5-of-8 from the field and 8-of-10 at the free-throw line for
the 49ers (7-0). Willie Clayton recorded a double-double with 14 points and 13
rebounds, DeMario Mayfield added 12 points, and Terrence Williams contributed
11 in the victory.
Maurice Kemp scored 16 points on 5-of-11 shooting from the floor for East
Carolina (5-1). Paris Campbell and Miguel Paul both tallied 12 points for the
Pirates in their first loss of the 2012-13 campaign.
Charlotte, which opened the game on a 5-0 run, led 37-26 at halftime after
outscoring East Carolina 24-12 in the paint.
The 49ers outscored the Pirates 39-38 in the second half as their bench
supplied 22 points, compared to just six by East Carolina's reserves.
Charlotte missed on all five attempts from three-point range after the break,
but outscored the visitors at the free-throw line in the period, 15-9.
The 49ers, who easily won the battle of the boards by a 45-21 margin and
allowed ECU just two rebounds at the offensive end of the floor, are now 7-0
for the first time in program history.
