Fort Wayne, IN (Sports Network) - Mario Hines made a go-ahead layup with two
seconds left to lift the IUPU-Fort Wayne Mastodons to a 57-56 decision over
the Miami-Ohio Redhawks, 57-56, in a non-conference bout at the Memorial
Coliseum.
Joe Edwards scored a team-high 10 points off the bench, but was the only
player in double figures for IPFW (5-4). Hines, Frank Gaines, and Michael
Kibiloski contributed nine points a piece. Hines also grabbed a team-high
seven rebounds in the win, which has won three of its last four outings.
For the Redhawks (3-3), Will Felder scored a game-high 15 points to go with
eight rebounds. Allen Roberts added 11 points in the setback.
Miami opened the first half on a 16-6 run and took a 32-22 advantage into
the break. The Mastodons struggled on the offensive end and converted a mere
8-of-26 attempts from the floor.
IPFW came out strong in the second half and made 13-of-24 attempts
from the field, while limiting the Redhawks to 6-of-16 field goals makes.
After Hines's layup but the Mastodons up 57-56 with two seconds left, Felder
missed a potential game-winning three-point attempt at the buzzer.
The Mastodons managed to pull out the victory despite making only 10-of-21
attempts at the charity stripe.
