Amherst, MA (Sports Network) - Reggie Johnson had a double-double of 19 points
and 13 rebounds and the Miami-Florida Hurricanes rode a second-half surge to a
75-62 win over the Massachusetts Minutemen in a non-conference matchup at the
Mullins Center.
Durand Scott added 15 points, Shane Larkin scored 14 and Kenny Kadji chipped
in 13 for Miami (5-1) which has won four straight.
Terell Vinson had a double-double of his own for UMass (3-3) with 14 points
and 11 rebounds. Chaz Williams also posted a double-double with 11 points and
10 assists while Jesse Morgan chipped in 10 points but needed 15 shots to do
so.
Miami led 30-25 at the end of the first half after limiting UMass to 25.7
percent shooting while hitting on 40.7 percent of its own shots. The Minutemen
made only 3-of-20 shots from beyond the arc in the first half.
With 8:16 left in the game, Miami took a 54-52 lead on a 3-pointer from Rion
Brown. That started a 24-10 run for the Hurricanes to close out the game.
Miami outscored UMass 32-18 on points in the paint and had a slight 37-34 edge
on the boards.
