Anchorage, AK (Sports Network) - Chris Braswell came off the bench to score 14
points as the Charlotte 49ers held off the Northeastern Huskies, 67-59, in the
championship game of the Great Alaska Shootout at Sullivan Arena.
Terrence Williams scored 13 points for Charlotte (6-0), while Darion Clark
chipped in 10 points. Pierria Henry tallied six points, five rebounds, three
assists, and three steals, and he was named the tournament MVP.
For Northeastern (4-2), Joel Smith led all scorers with 19 points, but he did
so on just 7-of-21 from the field. David Walker scored 13 points on 3-of-3
from three-point range.
Charlotte got out to a comfortable 30-19 lead at the half behind 47.6 percent
field goal shooting in the opening 20 minutes. Northeastern struggled from the
floor in the half, making just 7-of-26.
The Huskies climbed back in the game and brought their deficit to just four,
63-59, with 28 seconds to play, but Braswell closed out the contest for the
49ers with a layup and a pair of free throws in the final seconds.
Charlotte helped itself at the free throw line, shooting 22-of-27 from the
stripe, which helped it overcome a lackluster effort from three-point range
(3-of-11).
