Huntington, WV (Sports Network) - Dennis Tinnon scored 24 points, leading four
players in double figures, as the Marshall Thundering Herd captured an 89-82
win over the Nevada Wolf Pack in non-conference play at the Cam Henderson
Center.
Elijah Pittman tallied 22 points, D.D. Scarver 15 and Jamir Hanner 10 points
off the bench for the Thundering Herd (3-3) as they evened their record. Also
having significant impacts in the game were Nigel Spikes with his game-high 14
rebounds, to go along with seven points, and DeAndre Kane who offset his awful
shooting performance, 3-of-14 from both the floor and at the free-throw line,
by handing out 13 assists to go along with nine points.
The Pack (3-2) was paced by Deonte Burton who led all scorers with 28 points,
while Malik Story tacked on another 25 as he shot 5-of-10 behind the three-
point line. Before fouling out, Devonte Elliott chipped in 13 points and seven
boards.
Marshall opened the meeting on a 5-0 run and eventually led by 16 at the
break, 40-24, as it held the visitors to only seven made field goals through
the first 20 minutes of action.
In the second half both teams shot better than 53 percent from the field and
while Nevada was able to close the gap, the Herd still held on for the victory
thanks to 15 conversions at the free-throw line.
Marshall finished the outing at 51.6 percent from the floor which was actually
better than the team's effort at the charity stripe where they knocked down
only 17-of-34 opportunities.
