Lafayette, LA (Sports Network) - Bryant Mbamalu and Elridge Moore each scored
15 points as the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns won their season opener over the
Oakland Grizzlies, 90-79, in non-conference action at the Cajundome.
Moore was a perfect 6-of-6 from the field and added five rebounds and two
blocks for Louisiana (1-0). Shawn Long and Elfrid Payton scored 14 points
apiece, while Payton added eight assists.
For Oakland (1-1), Duke Mondy tallied a career-high 30 points on 12-of-18 from
the field, but he also committed nine turnovers. Drew Valentine and Travis
Bader each netted 16 points, and Corey Petros chipped in with 12 points.
Oakland led by as many as eight points in the first half and took a 42-37 lead
into intermission. The Grizzlies shot 53.6 percent from the floor in the
opening frame.
Louisiana came storming back after halftime. The Cajuns connected on 19-of-26
of their field goals in the second half and outscored Oakland 53-37 to pull
away.
The Cajuns turned 20 Oakland turnovers into 32 points.
