Jacksonville, AL (Sports Network) - Darion Rackley went 7-of-9 from the free
throw line on his way to a game-high 17 points as the Jacksonville State
Gamecocks took down Eastern Michigan, 61-54, in a non-conference matchup at
Pete Mathews Coliseum.
Brian Williams added 16 points and five assists for JSU (2-0). Ronnie Boggs
contributed 10 points and a team-best seven rebounds. The Gamecocks recorded 13
steals as a team in the contest.
Daylen Harrison led the Eagles (1-1) with 14 points and nine rebounds. Glenn
Bryant chipped in 13 points on 4-of-10 shooting from the floor, Derek Thompson
netted nine points, and Austin Harper came off the bench to hand out five
assists.
JSU shot 40 percent from the floor in the opening half to take a 27-24 lead
into the intermission. EMU held a one-point advantage with 2:59 before
halftime, but failed to make another field goal from that point on before the
second half.
The Gamecocks built their lead to as large as 10 in the second half before the
Eagles rallied to overcome the deficit. EMU led, 46-45, with 5:47 left to play
before a 7-0 run by the Gamecocks put the home team in front for good.
JSU outscored the Eagles in the paint, 34-20, and held a 36-32 advantage in the
rebounding battle. The Gamecocks avenged last season's 63-60 road loss to EMU
to even the series up a 1-1.
