Toledo, OH (Sports Network) - Julius Brown scored a team-high 29 points,
shooting 10-of-11 from the floor, as the Toledo Rockets posted a 72-67 win
over the Central Michigan Chippewas in Mid-American Conference play at Savage
Hall.
Also scoring in double figures for the Rockets (14-14, 5-8 MAC) as they won
their third in a row were Curtis Dennis and Rian Pearson with 18 and 11
points, respectively.
The Chippewas (8-19, 3-10) were paced by Trey Zeigler who logged a game-high
33 points on 15-of-25 shooting from the field. Derek Jackson added on 12
points, but still the team suffered a second straight defeat and the 11th in
the last 12 outings overall.
Both teams shot the ball extremely well from the floor in the first half, CMU
connecting on 57.7 percent and the Rockets 55.6 percent, so it came down to
the hosts converting one more three-pointer in the period which provided them
with a slim 37-36 edge at the break.
In the second half Toledo again lit up the scoreboard with a staggering 62.5
percent accuracy from the field, allowing the squad to capture the five-point
decision.
In a game that saw seven ties and 19 lead changes the Rockets, who ended up
making good on 58.1 percent from the field, survived despite turning the ball
over 17 times.
