Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Playing his final home game as a Dragon,
Samme Givens scored 18 points and pulled down eight rebounds, as Drexel
continued its amazing winning streak with a 78-61 decision over James Madison.
Chris Fouch tallied 14 points, Frantz Massenat 13 and Dartaye Ruffin 10 for
the Dragons (24-5, 15-2 CAA), whose 16 straight wins are a new record for the
school at the Division I level.
Givens became just the third player to record 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds
in Drexel history.
Andrey Semenov scored 17 and Gene Swindle added 15 for James Madison (11-19,
4-13), which lost its third straight.
The Dragons, who haven't lost since Jan. 2 at Georgia State, seemed in danger
of going down on Wednesday as they fell behind by as many as 11 in the opening
half. Head coach Bruiser Flint got his team in gear, though, as Drexel 12 in a
row for a 24-23 edge and the Dragons went into halftime trailing, 35-34.
Drexel took control immediately in the second half, opening the period with an
11-1 spurt. Givens finished the push with a layup, and the Dragons built the
cushion to 54-42 with 11:26 remaining on a dunk from Derrick Thomas.
The Dukes, who played without Humpty Hitchens (sore left shoulder) didn't get
closer than five the rest of the way.
