Richmond, VA (Sports Network) - David Pellom scored 16 points and took down
five rebounds as the George Washington Colonials edged the Richmond Spiders
69-67 in Atlantic 10 action at the Robins Center.
Dwayne Smith added 14 points for George Washington (9-16, 4-7 A-10) which had
lost its previous five. Lasan Kromah provided 11 points while Tony Taylor
handed out six assists.
Derrick Williams scored a career-high 21 points to pace the Spiders (13-13,
4-7) who have lost four of their last five. Francis Martel added 10 points,
while Darrius Garrett collected 11 rebounds and blocked five shots.
Richmond led 28-27 after a first half in which neither team led by more than
four. The Spiders were just 10-of-27 from the floor while the Colonials were
11-of-19.
Aaron Ware's layup with 1:16 left in regulation broke a 64-64 tie and gave
the Colonials the lead for good. Ware added two foul shots with :19 left to
give George Washington a 69-64 advantage. Cedrick Lindsay hit a trey for
Richmond at the 12-second mark, but Darien Brothers missed a potential game-
winning three-pointer with five seconds left.
The Colonials shot 55.1 percent from the floor for the game.
