Bronx, NY (Sports Network) - Chris Johnson finished with a double-double of 22
points and 13 rebounds to lead the Dayton Flyers to a 72-70 overtime win
against the Fordham Rams in an Atlantic 10 Conference battle at Rose Hill Gym.
Josh Parker added 14 points in the win for Dayton (15-9, 5-5 A-10), which
snapped a four-game skid.
Chris Gaston posted a game-high 23 points and collected eight boards to pace
Fordham (9-14, 2-8), which also got 16 points from Devon McMillan. Bryan Smith
added 14 points for the Rams, while Kervin Bristol registered 11 points and
pulled down 15 rebounds in a losing effort.
Fordham held the Flyers to just 32.3 percent from the field during the opening
frame, but an 8-of-11 effort at the foul line earned Dayton a slight 32-31
halftime edge.
The Flyers trailed, 63-61 with 29.9 seconds left to play, but Kevin Dillard
tied the contest with a layup. The score remained at 63-63 and the Rams had
the final possession, but failed to convert a runner in the lane and the
contest went to overtime.
In the extra session, the Rams were kept in check to the tune of 25.0 percent
from the floor, while the Flyers used a 6-of-6 performance at the charity
stripe to escape with a two-point triumph.
The Flyers converted 22-of-27 free throws overall during the contest.
