Baltimore, MD (Sports Network) - Erik Etherly registered a double-double with
22 points and 10 rebounds as he helped guide the Greyhounds of Loyola-Maryland
to an 87-81 win over the Iona Gaels in a battle for first place in the Metro
Atlantic Athletic Conference at Reitz Arena.
Also scoring 22 points for the Greyhounds (19-5, 12-2 MAAC) was Dylon Cormier,
while Justin Drummond and Robert Olson contributed 17 and 13 points,
respectively, as the team pushed its win streak to seven in a row.
The Gaels (19-6, 11-3) were paced by Mike Glover who registered a double-
double of his own with 22 points and a game-high 16 rebounds playing all 40
minutes as the squad had a four-game win streak snapped. Sean Armand came in
off the bench to record a game-high 25 points on 5-of-9 shooting behind the
three-point line, while Lamont Jones tacked on 12 points. Scott Machado
accounted for only seven points, but did hand out eight assists.
Iona trailed by eight points less than five minutes into the first half, the
team's mere 31.3 percent shooting from the floor in the period leaving it with
a 47-30 deficit at the break.
In the second half Loyola's lead reached as high as 25 points, but in the
closing minutes the Gaels were able to close the gap significantly before
accepting the six-point setback.
Loyola, which shot 50.8 percent from the field, left the door open for Iona as
the squad converted just 5-of-20 from behind the three-point line on the
night.
