San Luis Obispo, CA (Sports Network) - Chris Eversley recorded a double-double
with 11 points and 14 rebounds as the Cal Poly Mustangs downed UC Riverside
54-52 in a Big West Conference tilt at Mott Gym.
Will Taylor scored 13 and was a rebound short of his own double-double for Cal
Poly (14-11, 5-6 Big West) which had lost three of its previous four.
Phil Martin scored 22 points while Kevin Bradshaw had a 10 point 10 rebound
double-double for UC Riverside (11-13, 5-6) which has lost five of its last
six.
Cal Poly led a low scoring first half 21-20 despite shooting just 28.6 percent
and allowing UC Riverside to shoot 37.5 percent. The Mustangs held the lead by
outscoring the Highlanders 6-0 from beyond the arc.
The Mustangs began the second half on a 21-8 run and found itself ahead 42-28
with 10:28 remaining. The Highlanders then shored up on defense and gave
itself a chance to win in the closing seconds but Martin missed a
potential game winning three pointer with one second remaining and Cal
Poly collected the rebound to escape with the win.
The teams were competitive on the boards with Cal Poly holding a slim 34-33
lead in rebounds.
