LYNCHBURG, Va. (AP) - Cory Colder rushed for 157 yards as Briar Woods rolled up 366 yards on the ground and claimed its third consecutive Group AA, Division 4 state championship with a 52-0 victory against Heritage.
Briar Woods (15-0) extended its winning streak to 29 games, the longest in the state, and won for the 40th time in 41 games on Saturday at Liberty University, Lynchburg.
Heritage (12-2) was limited to 101 yards, 44 of which came on a late pass from Austin Fitzgerald to Jolito Rivera.
Trace McSorley completed 9 of 12 passes for 86 yards and a touchdown for Briar Woods, and rushed for 76 yards and two scores.
The 52-point victory is one point shy of matching the record of largest margin of victory in the Group AA state playoffs. Gate City defeated Amherst, 71-18, in 1974.
