(Sports Network) - The Denver Nuggets will aim to create some momentum on the road Wednesday evening as they visit an Atlanta Hawks team eager to get back on the court following the end of their season-long winning streak.

The Nuggets open up a five-game road trip with this contest and at the end of the trek will have played 17 contests as the guest this season compared to just six at home. Denver is 5-1 as the hosting club but just 4-8 on the road.

Following a winless three-game trek, the Nuggets picked up a 113-110 victory over the visiting Toronto Raptors on Monday. Corey Brewer led six Nuggets players in double figures with 19 points, though Denver had to hold off a Toronto rally.

The Nuggets carried a 14-point advantage into the fourth quarter and led 103-86 midway through the frame before the Raptors made their run. Toronto got to within one, but Ty Lawson hit a clutch 3-pointer with two minutes to play.

"I am glad we ended that one. Going on this road trip with four losses in a row would have been tough. I am glad we got a win and we are trying to get our swag back," said Lawson, who ended with 16 points.

Kenneth Faried added 18 points and 10 rebounds, while JaVale McGee had 17 points.

"We definitely need to close out better. This was the third game where we were up 15 to 17 points and let a team come back," noted Lawson.

The Nuggets first test on their latest road trip comes against a Hawks club that was less than a second away from posting a seventh victory in a row last Friday. However, Cleveland's Alonzo Gee scored on a putback of Dion Waiters' missed 3-pointer with .3 of a second left to hand Atlanta a 113-111 defeat.

Josh Smith led six Atlanta players in double figures with 25 points, while reserve Lou Williams had 18 points. That included a game-tying 3-point bucket with 13.6 ticks remaining.

"We really wanted to get this win, but they definitely came in and stole one," Smith said.

Al Horford had 15 points, 11 boards and five assists for the Hawks, who had won the first two of a five-game homestand that ends on Friday against Washington.

The Nuggets have won four straight against the Hawks, but have lost three of their last four in Atlanta and are just 3-18 as the road club in this series since the 1989-90 campaign.
