WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- The Washington Redskins delivered chilling news to their fan base on Tuesday afternoon, by releasing veteran tight end Chris Cooley.

Cooley was drafted in the third round by Joe Gibbs in 2004 and played eight seasons with the Redskins. He earned the nickname "Captain Chaos" for his humorous antics on and off the field.

The reports surfacing out of Redskins Park are that Cooley wanted a chance to start for another team. The 30-year-old was supposed to levy a $6.5 million hit on the salary cap, which obviously played into the Redskins decision.
