WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- For the past five years, the Capitals have infiltrated the homes of many Washingtonians, creating thousands of new fans. The hockey team has been competitive and boasts a superstar, in Alex Ovechkin.
But similar to NFL and NBA in 2011, the NHL's collective bargaining agreement is set to expire this fall. Recently, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman said the league will go into lockout mode if a deal isn't reached by September 15th.
Let's not forget that the NHL cancelled the entire season in 2004-2005, crippling the sport for several seasons.
