New York, NY (Sports Network) - The New York Knicks re-signed guard J.R. Smith
on Wednesday.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the New York Times reported it to be
a two-year contract worth $2.8 million the first year with a player option for
the second.
Smith, 26, appeared in 35 regular season games with the Knicks last season,
averaging 12.5 points, 3.9 rebounds and 2.4 assists. In the postseason, he
posted 12.2 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists in a first-round loss to the
eventual NBA champion Miami Heat.
The seven-year pro, who was selected 18th overall out of high school by New
Orleans in 2004, owns career averages of 12.5 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.0
assists in 538 games with New Orleans/Oklahoma City, Denver and New York.
